President's Welcome Letter 2017-2018

Childersburg Elementary School PTO

P.O. Box 66
President: Amanda Hemby
Vice President: Nettra Mallory
Treasurer: Pam Denty

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! The CES PTO is very excited to kick this year off strong and have a lot of wonderful things already planned! We would love your feedback on plans already in the works, in addition to new ideas about things that we can do to help the teachers, staff and students at Childersburg Elementary this year and for years to come.
I would like to take a minute to introduce myself and let all of you know what all the PTO has been able to accomplish last school year as well as sharing ideas that we are working on for this school year. My name is Amanda Hemby and I am the President of the CES PTO for the 2017-2018 school year. I was the Vice President last year, and helped in the planning of all the events that took place. I have three children, Mikayla in Ms. Mathis' 4th grade class and Blake in Ms. Linton's 1st grade class as well as Paycen who looks forward to starting CES for kindergarten next school year. I love working with the students and the staff at CES and am working on my Masters in Education.
With the help of all the parents at the school in the fundraising efforts from Kona Ice, the Penguin Patch holiday shop, spirit wear, field day, the raffle drawings, and Halloween goody bags, the PTO was able to raise money to purchase AR rewards, reading curriculum for 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades, awards that were given out at 4th grade graduation, a new no-touch thermometer for the school nurse, and hosted teacher appreciation. We also put together the yearbook for the school at a lower cost per book than previous year books.
This year we would love to do MORE! Our goal is to keep growing every year. The PTO this year already has made viewing of the solar eclipse happen by purchasing the glasses for each student and making the cute plate shields for each child to decorate to remember that really special day. Our next big event is the Fall Carnival that we had to put on hold from last year due to community wide scheduling conflicts. We would also like to do a color run/5k race. Additionally, returning events including the holiday shop, Kona Ice, Field Day, and Teacher Appreciation are still on our agenda, along with additional fundraising efforts. These efforts will be geared toward some of the big items that the PTO would like to provide for the school this year.  These include some benches for the playground and picnic tables for the kids to be able to eat outside during nice weather. We would also like to continue providing smaller things for the school as requested from the teachers, parent suggestions, and staff.
We can’t make any of this happen without the help and support of the parents and families of CES. Please fill out the attached membership form and send it in so that you can be added to our official membership list for this year. The PTO has determined that EVERY FAMILY will be granted automatic membership to the PTO for the 2017-2018 school year and dues will NOT be charged. We hope to increase parental involvement and have included a parent volunteer form that we hope you will fill out and return, letting us know what events and activities you would like to help with throughout the school year. Last but not least, we have included a permission slip that will be required for us to be allowed to use photos of your children or their work on the CES PTO Facebook group or the NEW Childersburg Elementary PTO website as well as other media such as newspaper or flyers. I look forward to working with and connecting with each and every one of you throughout the school year and making the 2017-2018 school year special and memorable for you and your CES student!
Thank you,

 Amanda Hemby
